In this week's episode of Optimal Health Uncovered, Todd and Mike discuss the latest updates and trends of the coronavirus pandemic and if there are ways to prevent the coronavirus disease.  Todd and Mike talk about how COVID-19 is changing and affecting the medical world, some of their personal experiences during the pandemic, how its changing Performance and the rapid emergence of telehealth and virtual healthcare.  They also discuss ways to help prevent contracting the disease, safety measures to protect yourself and others, and what the virus might look like in the future.

(7:32) Everyone in our facility took this virus seriously

(7:43) Much of our staff was working from home when possible

(7:54) People are starting to open back up a little too early

(8:45) Younger population and getting to school is tough

(9:10) Staying diligent to keep distance and prevent the spread

(10:01) Positive effects of exercise on the body

(10:27) Wearing a mask during exercise

(10:55) Frequency of exercise during an unprecedented time

(11:32) COVID-19 and recommending prevention techniques too soon before its proven

(11:52) Exercise is vitally important to overall health 

(12:20) Exercise can be a proactive approach to preventing COVID-19

(12:55) Worst cases of coronavirus cases are patients who have comorbidities or compromised immune systems

(13:53) Intensity of exercise and weakening the immune system

(14:10) Don’t put too much stress on the system

(14:50) Adding extra sleep into your routine

(15:16) Know where your body is before exercising

(15:20) Using wearables to monitor and track the body’s systems (Whoop strap, OURA ring, Apple watch, Fitbit)

(16:11) Over-exercising can become problematic and cause injury 

(16:55) Telefitness and telehealth appointments

(17:05) Clients are commuting and moving their body as much as pre-COVID-19

(17:22) Sedentary individuals and the new “Zoom” lifestyle

(17:59) Ergonomics in the home office and workplace

(18:45) Decreasing screen time when you don’t have to be on a screen or using blue-blocking glasses

(19:08) Filling extra time or down time with family or exercise vs more work

(19:55) Balancing life in front of the computer and continue working

(21:01) Vitamin D and its role with the novel coronavirus

(21:45) Highest prevalence of COVID-19 and how vitamin-D can help

(22:55) ACE-2 receptor angiotensin converting enzyme receptor and is shown to protect us against lung conditions

(23:05) Vitamin-D can be beneficial and create a healthy immune system that can prevent disease, although we don’t know if it could prevent COVID-19

(25:01) Recovery and its importance to the immune system

(25:15) Sleep as it plays into recovery and immune function

(25:22) Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night

(25:53) Go to bed at a consistent hour and wake up at the same time each morning

(26:12) Keeping the room dark and practice good sleep hygiene

(27:31) The body needs stress whether its from exercise, diet, or outside influences

(28:05)If you didn’t get enough sleep or over working, taking time away to re-charge
